DV0713 Tatting Hearts
This guide to tatting by a veteran needlecrafter provides explicit, clearly written instructions and over 100 illustrations for making 12 different tatted hearts. To create these lovely patterns, the author has developed two new techniques – "directional tatting", a short-cut tactic involving reverse stitches, and "stacking", a method that gives tatting a three dimensional look. Also included is a variation on the split ring technique perfected in the 1920s by the noted designer Anne Orr. Suitable for both beginners and experienced tatters. 32 pages.

Translated from Japanese to English, written by Teiko Fujito, who shares her love of tatting by offering a full range of fashionable projects for home, wearables and accessories, extending the basic forms of ring and chain into new dimensions, coaxing her threads into a myriad of designs incorporating colour and the texture of beads. Extensive sections on technique detail the many nuances incorporated into the designs, extending the vocabulary of the beginner as well as the advanced tatter. Each project is presented by detailed photo, graphic representation and written instructions. 123 projects including doilies, cushions, placemats, piano cover, tablecloth, handbags, shawls, edges, motifs and a multitude of accessories. 104 pages.

By Mary Konior – The main advantage of visual or diagrammatic system is that it enables tatters to understand directions at a glace, rather that having to read every written word. This is surely a contribution to speed in tatting and as such is should be welcome. Each design is laid out so that it relates as clearly as possible to the structure of the tatting whilst, at the same time, providing sufficient information regarding stitch counts and sequence of work. General written notes are included where further directions are necessary. This book is intended as a practical workbook, and therefore a number of technical tips are included. Designs include braids and panels, edgings and corners, accessories for dress and table, flowers, collars, motifs, crosses. Includes a section with ideas for other uses of tatted pieces. Colour photographs of finished articles. 114 pages. Soft cover edition.
