(Lacis revised edition of the 1995 edition)  By Rebecca Jones.  Everything you wanted to know but couldn't find out about shuttle lace.  I have heard this book being refered to by tatting teachers as the tatter’s bible.  After peering through the 112 pages of information I can see why.  You are acquainted with threads, shuttles, history, how to tat and all it involves, from the very beginning including 6 different methods including needle tatting.  There are simple starter patterns, working with combinations of 1 and 2 threads and shuttles, Josephine knots, motifs, ric rac tatting, lock stitch, rings, beads, cluny tatting, roll tatting, edges, notepaper, butterflies, doodles, baskets, jewellery, Christmas, alphabets and numbers, bits for babies, cats, bugs and a lot more.  112 pages.

  1. Easy to read and understand!

Posted by Martha Beckham on 9th Sep 2013

This is regarded as a "classic" among tatting books. It has never been out of print since it was first published in 1985 by Kangaroo Press. Ideal for beginners as it explains very clearly several different methods of learning how to tat. The patterns are in diagram format which makes them easy to follow and it is written in a friendly easy to understand manner. The author, Rebecca Jones, recently donated ownership of this book and all royalties to the Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles in Berkeley, California, a non-profit organisation which promotes the history of all kinds of lace and has regular exhibitions from all over the world. I have used and enjoyed this book since it was first published and I recommend it to anyone and everyone interested in this lovely craft.
