In this class you’ll learn to crochet a stunning lampshade using Lynda’s very own original pattern. The result is a showstopping piece of functional home décor that is guaranteed to have everyone asking, “Did you make that?!” 

Made using Scheepjes Catona Shine, the finished shade casts the most beautiful light and colour through its openwork design, and the effect when lit is truly magical!  Or make it with a solid or variegated ball. 

Lynda’s own version uses a recycled wine bottle as the lamp base with fairy lights as the light source, making it a wonderfully creative and sustainable project. Or you can use an existing lamp frame.  You are welcome to source a similar base of your own, and Lynda will guide you on what works best on the day, or reach out before the class to discuss what you have.  The panel structure easily makes it adaptable for any length and size.

Whether you display it on a shelf, a bedside table, or as a centrepiece, this is a truly one-of-a-kind handmade creation you’ll treasure for years to come.

During the first class Lynda will provide an overview of the construction and give some additional design ideas to consider.  We will then begin construction of the lamp.   In the remaining 3 classes during the month Lynda will continue to guide you through the completion of the remainder of the pattern and tailouring it to your lamp size.  

Material– 8 ply yarn, 3.5 mm hook, stitch markers, sewing needles, scissors, lamp frame whole, or at least the top in tact and a ring to form the bottom.  Suggested top is 15cm, bottom no larger than 25cm.   See image

For a lamp shade 18cm in length,  125m should be sufficient.  For a lamp shade between 18cm and 28cm in length, 250m should be sufficient.

You can use your own yarn or purchase yarn in the shop – please purchase this at least a week before hand to allow time for it to arrive.

A bit about your teacher: 

Lynda learnt to crochet when she was about 8 years old. She has owned Crochet Australia for over 10 years where she has been regularly leading crochet classes and clinics. Lynda has completed her Crochet Teaching Certificate with the Craft Yarn Council of America and teaches at the Crochet Teaching Course now run by the Crochet Guild of Australia.
