Crochet Extra – June 2023

Crochet Extra – June 2023

I hope many of you were able to crochet or knit some jumpers, cardigans, jackets, shawls, ponchos and other cosy warmers for this cold snap that has suddenly hit us.    As you read this I will be in Sydney attending the Crochet Guild Australia conference where I will be happily wearing my many crocheted warmers—cowl, jacket, beanie and scarf.  We will not have a stall at the conference but will have a display stand with information about some exciting events and some of our new products—please come by and take a look and say hello.  And as I am in Sydney the shop will not be open on Saturday 3rd June.

What are your plans for wwkip day (world wide knit & crochet in public) day on the 10th of June?  A day to celebrate the passion of knitting and crocheting, whether you are a beginner or have been crafting for years.  If you are on the Sunshine Coast drop in to see us as we celebrate this day.

crochet mandala surpriseWe will be open on the 10th from 9am to 2pm,  instead of this Saturday the 3rd.

On this day we will  be unveiling a new installation at Crochet Australia – a project we have been working on for 18 months now involving lots of crocheted mandalas using every colour of the Wren Cotton.  This will be occurring at midday.  We will also be streaming this live on facebook for those who don’t live around here—so keep an eye out for the details.

pandoras world lal 2023Today we also launch our new event—Pandora’s World!  This will be a 3 month long adventure to learn over 7 new striking and textured stitches via live zoom sessions with myself.

The finishing touches are being placed on the Waffle-icious cardigans this week—Elvira was the first to finish hers, and I can’t wait to see the rest.

Next week we kick off the Bay of Shells Bag class—a beautifully textured bag with a crochet a texture bag classleather base, designed by Live Love Crochet Shaz.  We use the Finch 10 ply cotton for a sturdy bag.  The cotton, leather base and bag fasteners can all be purchased here at Crochet Australia.  You can join the class any time during the month.  Monday evenings online 7pm, in store Tuesday mornings 9.30am or Wednesday evenings in store 5.30pm.

In July we will be making this bright and cheerful skirt designed by Elsharah.  This skirt is made using a whirl, although any 4 ply cotton will work.

Theme—All Kitted Up

kitsOver the last few years we have been creating more crochet and knit kits in store – but I hadn’t realised how many until we put them all on display in the shop last year – and we found we didn’t have enough room for them all.   So we thought we’d devote this month to looking at those kits.

Kits are where we have packaged together a pattern and yarn and sometimes the additional accessories, so you know you have enough yarn to make the project – all you have to do is select your colour(s).  Kits also make fabulous gifts for your fellow crafty family and friends.  Here at Crochet Australia most kits come in a beautiful gauze bag to keep your whole project together, that also make great travel projects.

All the kits at Crochet Australia have been hand picked by us – you won’t find them elsewhere!  And we feature a wide range of projects in kits – home décor, such as mandalas, lanterns, and doilies; practical items, such as hat holsters, plant hangers, face cloths, tissue box covers, amigurumi and bags; winter warmers, such as wraps, scarves, beanies, gloves, socks and ponchos; as well as learn to crochet kits for both kids and adults alike.

But if you can’t find what you want in a kit – reach out to us and we can help create your own unique kit.  It may even become part our product range!

Of course we have left the hardest part to you – choosing the colours!  But we can help with that too. Just contact us and we’ll talk through selecting the colours for your purpose – either in store or over the phone.  With video calls and zoom now part of every day life we can interact with you in real time.

But the kits aren’t just limited to projects – we also have kits or sets of tools.  There are a numerous range of hook sets – clover, boye, Suzanne, Lion Brand, Lacis as well as accessories kits to ensure you have all the items you need to make your crafting experience as joyful as possible.  And our new yarn bag sets are the perfect way to keep all your items together, in addition to your projects.

While we are predominantly crochet – we do have some knitting and tatting kits and accessories available too.

Take a browse through our newsletter to see just a selection of what we have.

I found this free pattern for holding remote controls by Tinks World – but I immediately could see this would be handy for all crafters to put their tools out of harms way – and you can make the pockets whatever size you wish – perhaps another way to put your current WIPs out of harms way as well?
