It’s November already! Where did the last few months go?  And I see the hints of Christmas appearing everywhere – decorations, parties and Australia Post releasing their lodgement dates.  The table below represents the last lodgement date with the best chance of arriving before Christmas – but I suggest getting in as early as possible as there is still no guarantee it will arrive before Christmas.

This month we will be making the Adinah Floor Rug designed by Andrea from Hand Made by Periwinkle.  We’ve made up a few samples in the shop – they are fun to make and will make great gifts too.  You don’t have to make them for the floor – use finer yarn for a table centre, or put the mandala on a ring for a wall hanging.adinah floor rug book now

Theme—Accessorize your Tool kit

Crochet can lead to more than an addiction to yarn. No true crocheter/ knitter/ tatter or crafter is without a descent accessories tool kit. To be honest, what is yarn with out the tools to turn it into something beautiful.

When you think of Crochet for example the first item that pops to mind is hooks. One is never enough due to hungry couches and pets that need a chew toy so we always need a back-up. Not to mention different sizes for different yarns and projects.

Then there is a good pair or pairs, if you’re like me, of scissors. I need a travel pair, a mini pair for out and about, a pair for the lounge and craft room…just to name a few. Let’s not forget our trusty stitch markers and yarn needles to sew in those tails

hook case and accessoriesOf course, you need something to hold it all in. We have recently discovered the best little cases that have 2 compartments that hold a great range of hook sizes including the ergonomic style, a zippered section for your stitch markers, another pocket for your tape measure, row counter, yarn ring and lots more. Then there is a special couple of slots to hold a pen and your scissors. It makes my immediate tools and accessories very portable so I can throw it all in my project bag and it is completely safe.

Some of my other favourite and quite necessary tools are my light weight, timber yarn bowl, rechargeable led light, yarn spindle, clover pom pom makers and tassel makers, colour wheel, yarn threader and winder.  And of course the stitch guides are valuable to give you a range of stitches to add into your projects.

You can also make a number of the accessories yourself – such as project bags, hook/needle/shuttle holders, pin holders, just to name a few.  Check out this free pattern from Hooked on Needles to crochet a pin holder. Crocheted Pin Cushion

As you can see there is more to a comfortable crochet lifestyle than some nice yarn and a trusty hook.

Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to something new for your crochet / knitting/ tatting tool kit. Remember Christmas is just around the corner so pamper yourself or your fellow crafty friends.

Edgit Kits

If you are crocheting edges onto towels, washers, blankets or clothes, you can’t go past one of these edgit kits.  The kit includes a sharp pointed needle to pierce the hole and crochet at the same time – a great time saver – a normal hook to continue crocheting your other rounds and a book of edge patterns.  There are 5 different pattern books to choose from.
