Crochet Extra – September 2020

Crochet Extra – September 2020

Crochet Extra – September 2020

This month our store got a make over – it is now purple resembling our brand colours – so it stands out quite a bit from the road….And with these warm winter days we’ve been having it has been a pleasant back drop to our workshops we’ve been holding outside.

The crochet tournament has come to an end – so many beautiful squares were produced and the colour combinations were amazing – no two seemed to be the same.  Some of the uses the squares were put were very imaginative – bags, blankets, scarves, pillow cases, just to name a few.  See the collage we put together from each heat below. Our participants won some fabulous prizes.  We would love to hear from the participants and spectators – have your say by clicking on image below.

Now it is time to finalise preparation for the retreat.  Letters were sent out to all of those who booked via our website or direct by phone,  If you think you did this and haven’t received an email from us please contact us as soon as possible to finalise your booking and yarn selection for the kits.  We need to order the yarn next week in order for it to arrive on time.

Sadly we continue to have delays with our orders from suppliers – it has now extended to all Clover products as the warehouse in Japan is unable to produce at full capacity.  We are waiting for our own orders to be filled in order to restock the popular sizes.

And once again we are seeing a slow down in the delivery of your own orders with the lockdown in Victoria.  Many deliveries that are destined for South Australia and Western Australia pass through Victoria, and this has caused delays to these areas as well.

Lastly, don’t forget to join our workshops.  Spots for our online interractive workshops can be purchased via eventbrite.

September we are learning brioche crochet – a lovely textured fabric using at least two colours.book now

Theme—Trendy T-Shirt Yarn Projectslanka t shirt crochet australia

With many of us still working from home or sadly still in lock down it has been a great time to do those special projects at home that we have wanted to do for a long time.

Home décor and gardening are some areas that have been great to occupy the days at home. Add a personal touch with some hand made projects using T-Shirt yarn.

Whether it be a basket or a floor rug, cushion or a pouf, you can decorate any space inside and out with our beautiful Lanka T-Shirt yarn. Made with 100% cotton each skein has approx. 100-110 metres, and comes in a great range of colours.

Crocheting with T-Shirt yarn requires a large hook from about a size 8mm and up. We have a large range of hooks to suit all your project needs. My personal favourite for the larger sizes is the Clover Amour Hooks – they have comfy handles to make your work easier and more pleasurable.

Enhance your baskets by using a wooden base to add that touch of class. These bases give you a solid bottom to your basket. They come with holes around the edges to keep your work even and your baskets solid and come is a range of sizes and shapes.  I’ve even seen these used as bases for bags.  We also have tissue box toppers to crochet a tissue box cover using the same concept as the basket. Perfect for dressing up any room in your home.

Another fun use for t-shirt yarn is to make bags. We are all trying to be more environmentally friendly and what better way to do this than to make your own bags from 100% cotton T-Shirt yarn. Market bags, beach bags, bags for the kids, bags to organise your goods, purses and clutch bags or even your own craft bag…the options are endless.

You can even use this yarn for macramé pot plant hangers or wall hangings and its great for the kids to use for finger knitting. T-Shirt yarn is so versatile that your imagination is your only limitation.  If you are stuck for a decision try your hand at this wine carrier from Moogly

Tip of the Month

Using T-Shirt Yarn

Using T-shirt yarn for knitting or crochet can lead to some amazing projects.  Projects work up quickly because the yarn is so big, but T-shirt yarn can be a little difficult to work with.  Here are some tips that I found when I started using it and others that I picked up along the way
