Crochet Extra – September 2022

Wow what a fun weekend we had at the Crochet Retreat last weekend. 57 ladies gathered here on the Sunshine Coast for a weekend of crochet, relaxing, and having a laugh with old and new friends.  Show and Tell really did show off the amazing talent out crochet retreat 2022there.  Check out some of the other highlights from the weekend here

We also ran a raffle to raise money for breast cancer – and thanks to the generosity of these ladies we raised $570.   Sue took out first prize which was a Rozetta Kit donated by Crochet Australia and second prize was won by Anne.  She received a Natures Bouquet Scarf Kit donated by Live Love Crochet Shaz.

Theme—Step into Spring with Bags and Purses

If you’ve been following the fashion pages lately you will see that crochet items are coming out in a big way for this years Spring and Summer fashions. Even PradaPrada Prada Re-Edition 2005 raffia bag 1 is getting in on the Crochet trend with bags and hats sporting their logo embroidered onto the crochet items.

Spring time brings a breath of fresh air to the year with all the blooms and colours starting to pop out everywhere. In crochet we are seeing some beautiful granny square patterns coming out sporting floral designs as the centrepiece. It’s amazing what you can create with a granny square and the colours you can bring to a project through them. One of this season’s popular makes is a granny square bag with a Crochet Granny Square Bucket Hat Free Pattern 🧶 Make & Do Crewmatching granny square bucket hat to match.

Ideally, we recommend using a cotton or cotton blend to make a bag or purse so that it holds its shape better and is more durable. You can use any ply cotton to suite the size, thickness and texture you are wanting to achieve.

I personally love using the Madame Tricot Camilla Batik Cotton. It comes in lots of different colourways and creates it’s own beautiful pattern. There is also the Fiddlestick Wren 8ply or Finch 10ply cotton or Create Handmade 4 ply cotton – these all come in a good range of colours. One of our largest sellers is the Scheepjes Catona Cotton, where the range of colours is extensive making it perfect to match any colourway you are wanting to create. It is a mercerized cotton that brings a lovely soft sheen to your work.

There is also a large range of pattern books available to crochet or knit – from market bags to evening bags and all sorts of purses.

I love making bags and adding embellishments, so my crochet kit has tassel and pom pom makers, a variety of yarn and thread needles, a set of good ergonomic hooks such as clover or tulip hooks, Stitch markers and blocking T-pins…just to name a few. I wouldn’t be without my yarn bowl and led light and a good pair of scissors. If you need any of these then make sure you look at our wide range of accessories, all there to make your crochet time easy and that much more fun.

We would love to see you step out this Spring with a new crochet bag or purse and join in on the latest fashion trends….browse through the next section for a sample of popcorn totewhat we have in patterns and kits.  Or try this free pattern for a Popcorn Square Crochet Tote by Yarnspirations
