Description
Interested in learning to crochet? Join our learn-to-crochet group sessions led by Lynda on Tuesday afternoons!
These group sessions are limited in number and limited to beginners in the early stages of their crochet journey.
During these lessons you will be learning:
- basic crochet stitches – chain, double crochet, and treble
- basic techniques in the correct manner,
- to understand the language of crochet to read crochet patterns, and
- understand the different terminologies.
If this is your first foray into crochet, I recommend you booking 3 lots of 2 hour lessons to cover all of the above. Your first lesson will only cover the basics of holding the hook and yarn, making chains and double crochet stitches.
The price above includes 2 hours of Lynda’s time plus handouts. You will need to bring or purchase on the day (see below) an 8 ply yarn and a 4mm hook.
(Signing up to these classes also gives you 10% off yarn on the day of your class if you need to purchase these in store.)
I recommend you use an 8 ply acrylic – we sell Superb 8 which is very suitable for this purpose. When choosing your yarn, stay away from dark colours and white and variegated yarns – a medium neutral colour is best to enable you to see the stitches.
With this yarn you will need a 4mm hook. If you are serious about crochet I recommend you use a hook with an ergonomic handle as this will place less strain on your hands and wrist. Clover Amour, Clover Soft Touch, Knit Pro Soft Grip and Tulip Etimo are all suitable, although the Amour was designed with beginners in mind. You can purchase a hook on your first visit to the shop
I also recommend the purchase of stitch markers.
You will be given work to practice at home, which is reviewed in subsequent lessons. Each subsequent lesson builds on your previous learnings and mastery of stitches and techniques.
Crocheting is a very satisfying activity. Completing projects gives a great sense of accomplishment. It is always good to have a few projects you want to achieve in mind. You won’t begin these straight away, but I will help you work towards that goal.
These sessions are conducted at Crochet Australia – 12.30 – 2.30 Tuesday afternoons. If you would prefer a private session please contact us directly to arrange a suitable time.
If you already know the basics of crochet and would like a refresher – join one of these sessions but let us know in the comments. Or if you need help with a specific pattern/stitch/technique, join our crochet clinic
A bit about your teacher:
Lynda learnt to crochet when she was about 8 years old.
